Unix page replacement algorithm?

how do u know what page replacement algo is being used in the unix os that is running on my system ( i am using ubuntu). and is there any way of seeing where the code for this algo being implemented?... also can anyone tell me how to read the contents of /proc.. the files show nothing when opened... i am a new user to unix and hence find it difficult..
